“The Gruffalo” - Julia Donaldson, Axel Scheffler
Language of book for review: Brazilian Portuguese - “O Grúfalo”
Published also in:
German - “Der Grüffelo”
English - “The Gruffalo” (Original)
European Portuguese - “O Grufalão”
I must admit, I heard about the title for some time without really knowing what the story was about. So, when our son heard about the Gruffalo first through the English version book, I was curious what it will be about. We already had the Portuguese book lying around, just not unwrapped yet.
The story is about the smartest mouse in the entire forest. The fox, the owl, and the snake all want to catch and eat the mouse. Luckily, Mouse knows its way around and freaks everyone out with the description of its best friend: the horrible Gruffalo, a creature that eats fox for breakfast, owl for lunch and snake for dinner. Needles to say that everyone leaves mouse alone, since noone wants to mess with the Gruffalo’s best friend…
It was astonishing to see how hooked our son was by the Gruffalo, for about a week, and then he forgot about the book (almost) entirely.
